Weights and heights are copied from each breed's standard or profile: the American Kennel Club (AKC) for most breeds, and the breed's own registry or club where the AKC doesn't cover it (for example UKC for the American Pit Bull Terrier, FCI for the Cane Corso, GANA for Goldendoodles). Each breed page links its source. Each breed is grouped by the size class its growth chart uses, which follows the classes in our puppy weight calculator; breeds near a boundary, such as the Bernese Mountain Dog or the French Bulldog, could fit in either group.
What counts as a large dog?
There is no single official definition. Vets and pet food makers usually group dogs by expected adult weight, and the boundaries vary a little between sources. On PetCalcKit, large means a typical adult weight of roughly 55–100 lb (25–45 kg) and giant means roughly 100 lb (45 kg) or more. Size matters most for puppies: large and giant breeds grow for longer and need a food made for large-breed puppies.
To estimate how big your own puppy will get, use the puppy weight calculator or the puppy growth chart. For cats, see the cat breed size chart.
