Maine Coon size

The Maine Coon is the biggest of the popular cat breeds. Males usually weigh 12–22 lb (5.4–10 kg) and females 9–15 lb (4.1–6.8 kg), and they can take 3–5 years to reach full size. Enter your cat's weight to see how it compares.

Breed ranges are a guide, not a target: a healthy body shape matters more than the number on the scale. Last reviewed October 9, 2026.

How big do Maine Coons get?

Breed registries and vet sources don't agree exactly, so here is what each one says about adult weight:

SourceMalesFemales
CFA20 lb or more is not unusualsmaller than males
TICA18–22 lb (average 13–18 lb)12–15 lb (average 9–13 lb)
VCAup to 20 lbup to about 12 lb
Purina12–15 lb9–12 lb

Based on these figures, the size checker uses 12–22 lb (5.4–10 kg) for males and 9–15 lb (4.1–6.8 kg) for females. Ranges a source gives for all adults are shown for reference.

When do Maine Coons stop growing?

CFA says Maine Coons can take up to 3 years to reach full growth, TICA says they don't reach full size until 3–5 years, and VCA says they aren't fully mature until age 4. Maine Coons keep filling out after their first birthday, so a 1-year-old can still be well below its adult weight.

There is no published month-by-month growth chart for Maine Coon kittens from a breed registry or vet source, so we don't print one. For the first months, compare your kitten with the kitten growth chart, and use the kitten feeding chart to see how much to feed.
