Why puppy age is counted in weeks

Puppies change so fast in their first months that a few weeks make a real difference. Vets plan vaccinations, deworming and check-ups by week, and breeders and shelters usually give a puppy's age in weeks. Once a dog is past about six months, months are usually precise enough.

How the calculator works

The calculator counts the days between your puppy's birthday and today. Weeks are whole weeks plus leftover days. Months are whole calendar months plus leftover days, so a puppy born on the 10th turns one month old on the 10th of the next month. The decimal months figure divides the days by the average month length of 30.44 days.
