How long are cats pregnant?

According to the Merck Veterinary Manual, pregnancy in cats lasts 60 to 65 days. The calculator adds those days to the mating date to give you the window when kittens are most likely to arrive.

Signs that labor is near

The first stage of labor usually lasts 12 to 24 hours. During it, a cat may hide, seem restless and build a nest. She may also vomit, tremble or refuse food, and may have a clear, watery discharge. Contractions start inside before you can see her pushing.

Call your vet if the due window has passed, if your cat strains hard without a kitten appearing, if she has a green or bloody discharge before the first kitten, or if she seems very weak or unwell.

How long is a cat pregnant?

About 60 to 65 days, or roughly 9 weeks, from mating.

How can I tell if my cat is pregnant?

Your vet can usually confirm it between 21 and 30 days after mating, by feeling her belly or with an ultrasound. Later, her belly grows and she gains weight.

How many kittens will my cat have?

An X-ray taken more than 55 days after mating lets your vet count the kittens' skeletons, so you know how many to expect.

What are the signs a cat is about to give birth?

Hiding, restlessness, nesting, refusing food and sometimes vomiting or trembling are common in the 12 to 24 hours before kittens arrive.
